Random Photo: Inordinate Fondness

A photo a day keeps the Doctor in play.

If one could conclude as to the nature of the Creator from a study of creation, it would appear that God has an inordinate fondness for stars and beetles.

J.B.S. Haldane

Haldane was, evidently, inordinately fond of repeating variations of this statement, and friends, acquaintances, and biographers equally inordinately fond of reporting anecdotes as to when, where, and to whom he said it. So your mileage may vary.

Update: I crowd-sourced the species ID on Facebook: The pictured bug is a Red Milkweed Beetle (Tetraopes tetrophthalmus). Poet and naturalist Dave Bonta almost instantly provided the link. A flourish of my panache to him.
